IKHET is an immersive installation feat. an audio-reactive light sculpture in the form of a pyramid that dazzles the senses via 3D sound, haptics, and a lo-fi holographic optical illusion. Through this assemblage of techniques, the artist reflects on a significant time of change.
"Ikhet", which translates to 'Glorious Light,' is the Ancient Egyptian name for the Great Pyramid of Giza. The pyramid, originally coated in polished white limestone, is said to have reflected the sun's rays so brightly that it was a beacon of inspiration and awe from miles away.
This installation, inspired by a life changing exploration of the Pyramids of Giza in 2014, began as a sonic collage of original field recordings, electronic textures, noise, feedback, and experimental boom bap beats. The resulting audio composition is a meditation reflecting on the turbulent period leading up to the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic and its aftermath. Themes around social justice, anxiety, community care, labor, grief, and resilience are explored through psychedelic, spiritual, soothing, and rebellious moments in sound, rhythm, light, and vibration.
